The Borders Liquidation Sale Starts Today

What a sad day this is for me.

For some of you, Borders closing is likely not a big deal. Some of you might have a Barnes & Noble nearby or maybe you’ve already switched over to e-books. But for me, Borders is more than just a place to buy books.

Borders has become a place for me to connect with my tween. We go every Wednesday after school to get a cup of coffee (or hot chocolate!), talk, and look at magazines together. When Ella was born, her first public outing was to Borders. It’s where my knitting group meets once a month. And the staff knows the regulars.

For example, earlier this week, a girl behind the coffee counter told me that she had seen my oldest at the mall with her friends and asked how the baby was doing.

Borders has really become something more than just a bookstore for us – and frankly, for many others in our big-but-small community. Read more…

Sales Galore at Borders

My older daughter and I spend a significant amount of time at Borders and as such, I am constantly on the scout for coupons and deals from them.

The downside about their coupons is that they don’t last long, but with the power of the Internet, you can just log-on and still cash in on the savings. So, here’s today’s coupons – but they end at midnight tonight so you’ll have to act fast.

In addition to these coupons, they are having a large Buy 1, Get 1 50% off sale in store as well – and Borders Plus Members save an extra 10%. So, I am headed over there today to purchase Ken Follett’s The Pillars of the Earth as well as Brom’s The Child Thief, which are both part of the sale and I’m using both coupons. My savings will bread down like this.

  • $24.95 – 40% = $14.97 – 10% =$13.47
  • $19.99 – 33% = $13.93 – 10% = $12.05
  • My grand total will be just over $25 plus tax – nearly the cost of just one book.

Borders Rewards Members Save Big Through August 8th

Are you a Borders Rewards Member? If not, you really should be.

In addition to getting weekly coupons via email, you’ll also be eligible for their “buy 5 drinks get 1 free” promotion through their cafe.

Now, if you are a member, be sure to check your inbox. I just received a coupon good for 25% off the list price of most items in a single purchase and a coupon for a free glitter ball (which my daughter has been dying to have for months).

Finish off the weekend by letting your kids attend the Borders Silly Bandz Swap which should be nothing short of entertaining.

Up to 90% Off in the Border’s Marketplace

If you’re anything like me, you enjoy a good book…..or even some good music.

Border’s Marketplace is currently having a blowout sale and offering up to 90% off thousands of book, movie and music titles. I found the ever-popular title Where the Wild Things Are for just $1.04, Diary of a Wimpy Kid titles starting at right around $6 and Twilight, Water for Elephants and A Thousand Splendid Suns each priced at less than $3.

Granted, they’re all used copies, but does it matter? They all read the same, right?

You’ll find similar deals in both music and movies which are perfect for long car trips with the littles.

Considering going electronic? Now’s a great time to do it. I received an eReader for Mother’s Day this year and have to say, as much as I do love the feel of a good book, this e-reading thing is definitely convenient. No more juggling a sleeping baby in one hand while trying to flip a page with the other…you simply press a button. Plus, with the ability to hold hundreds of books, you’re never without something to read (think beach, carpool lane, soccer practice….)

Anyway, Border’s just unveiled their line and you can get a Kobo for $149 plus a $20 Border’s gift card and double Border’s Bucks (if you’re a member of that rewards program).  Now that’s a killer deal.
