There is no clear consensus on electronics for babies and toddlers – not among parents and not among professionals. While some feel none is the best way to go, others say a few here and there won’t hurt.

So of course it’s no surprise that Fisher Price has introduced educational apps for the tech-savvy toddlers of the world.

And they’re free to download from iTunes if you’re so inclined.

From naming the parts of the body to animal sounds and counting, they’ve got it all covered.

And soon, they’ll also be selling a product that you can put your iPhone or iPod in so it won’t be damaged by over eager kids.

Pretty ingenious.

The element of interactivity is certainly alluring, isn’t it? While I don’t have a problem with these more engaging, digital form of flashcards, which is what I would classify these educational apps as; I for one can’t afford to give my young child my very pricey smartphone to play with … can you?

I mean, even with the fancy FP baby-proof drop cover, the real issue is a toddler’s need to suddenly fling things, to sneeze icky bodily fluids randomly all over everything, and to touch the sensitive screen with jelly-covered fingers. I won’t cry if she ruins a $5 pack of flashcards though.
